Smith’s mural, The Natural World of the Lenape, illustrates indigenous plants used by the Lenni-Lenape peoples. She highlights wild plant foods like strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Alongside, the roots of cattail plants and water lilies are sometimes eaten by Lenape, persimmons, cranberries, and wild plums.

This survey beckons environmental stewardship with the potential of learning more about the original inhabitants of New Jersey. In addition, depicting nature and green spaces gives a sense of social presence, allowing a transformation of the immediate environment and thereby enhancing community investment.
